![]() Other options might be Serum, Omnisphere (expensive), Spire, KV331, NI, Arturia or Synapse, but you'll want do know how synthesis works, what your needs are, and DEMO THEM before you buy. (you might also get lucky and find a great price on Knobcloud to buy it for). That's maybe a $150-200 outlay, but again, you can sell them quickly for $100-120 or so on knobcloud. Diva and Zebra are my go-tos and are extremely deep and flexible, but check out their website and listen to their samples. They very rarely go on sale, but you can always quickly sell them on knobcloud for 70% of what you paid for them. Then buy a great synth that you'll be able to use for a long time. In terms of what synths to buy, start with whatever is included in your DAW and use them until you've exhausted the possibilities and/or get tired of the sound. If you want to keep learning synthesis, contact him for an educational discount (i assume you're a student). ![]() I would cover synths by getting Syntorial to learn synthesis properly, and then getting one or two great synths. Going this route might cost your the price of a DAW (which you'll need anyways), or it will cost you $0 if you already have a good one. Starting to buy a bunch of plugs because of what you read on the internets will leave you with a bloated plugin folder of shit you don't need/use and just get you on the road to buying a bunch of useless shit (also known as GAS). If you already have a decent DAW, it probably also has all of the effects plugins you need until you start wanting to make money with what you're doing, and buy then you'll be able to make educated choices based on your workflow and needs. $300, not sure if they have an edu discount. I know Ableton very well, which has a ton of included software instruments and effects in "Suite", but maybe Cubase Artist would be another option. If you don't have a Mac, talk to some people who have a PC and find out what the best package is in terms of VSTs. Logic Pro is the best deal in all of music in terms of content, IMHO. The included effects cover all bases, and the included instruments are all very good and will take you far. In your situation (if I'm understanding correctly), I would not go with Komplete at this point. Hope this helps anyone who has the same issue. Don’t know if this is common knowledge but I had a frustrating time just trying to figure this out. Then when I opened Kontrol in my DAW I had to re-authorize it and my new stuff was there. I deleted Kontrol, reinstalled, and then tried opening up the standalone version. Reinstalling Kontrol from Native Access didn’t work. Hope this helps anyone who tries this route and has trouble.ĮTA: I had Komplete Start already installed and I couldn’t for the life of me get Komplete Kontrol to show any of the stuff I installed from Komplete Standard. Then after buying, I had to copy+paste the Komplete serial number in Native Access to actually see the Komplete stuff in Native Access. I had to go to my account in the NI website and copy+paste the Komplete Select serial number into Native Access in order to see the Komplete upgrade price. ![]() The NI website wasn’t showing me the Komplete upgrade price after buying Select. Just pulled the trigger on buying Komplete Select with the half off code and upgrading to Komplete. I'll keep updating this thread as more information comes. Remember if you're planning on getting Komplete and not just getting Kontakt, it's cheaper to crossgrade from Select which is still on sale: You now qualify for Kontakt Crossgrade which should be around $130 once the Native Instruments site goes live. The official site as of GMT -04:00 (5am EST) is not up yet.įor those of you who do not have any way to upgrade/crossgrade at this point, here is the Kontakt trick to qualify.ģ) Install Native Access and take the registration code for Arcane that you will be emailed and register it. There will be a lot of stores carrying this.
